KEY INITIATIVES
In 2012, the NBRPA-Houston Chapter will devote its time and talents to 2 key initiatives: Water Education Initiative: NBRPA-Houston has formed a partnership with the Project WET Foundation (PWF: www.projectwet.org), the global leader in reaching children, teachers and communities with water resources education. What’s the connection? Water—the world’s most precious natural resource. Linking the star power of Basketball Legends to teaching kids about our shared water resources and water’s vital role in our health will allow the NBRPA to make a clear and positive impact in their communities. Legend participation will also shine a light on the importance of managing, preserving and protecting water resources - a mission that Project WET has carried out since its founding in 1984. STEM Initiative: U.S. student achievement in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) disciplines lag behind student achievement in much of Asia and Europe. Effective STEM teaching and learning prepares students for real-world applications and the technical workforce demands of the 21st century. STEM-ready students are critical thinkers, science literate, and they will become the next generation of innovators. STEM innovation leads to new products and processes that sustain America’s economy. The U.S. Department of Labor projects that 15 of the top 20 occupations in the next 10 years will require a significant improvement in STEM education. In partnership with Texas Southern University, PWF, and Tekoa Charter Academy, the NBRPA Legends are gearing up to lend their names and commitment to encouraging STEM students and teachers to raise their games to higher levels. |  UPCOMING EVENTS
